With the flip of a switch your room is illuminated with ZERO thought about how its possible. With the turn of knob you have water, cold or hot, flowing our of a spigot. These are necessities we enjoy on a daily basis, yet we rarely think about where they come from. Yes, we all know there are power plants and water facilities that handle all the stuff that goes into creating the magic that is central AC and indoor plumbing. But what we rarely consider is the criticality of these industries. These places are HUGE security targets. They’re actually under attack 24/7.

You ever thought to yourself “What if the water coming out of the water fountain is poison”. I don’t bring this up to fear monger, thats not what we do here. BUT, it is something that is absolutely possible. It can happen in the last place you’d ever expect. Take the Littleton Electric Light and Water Departments in Massachusetts for example. Its a very small utility provider in a very small town of barely 15,000 residents. This quaint little town was victim to a cyber attack and they didn’t even know it. Volt Typhoon, a cyber hacking arm of the Chinese government, had somehow wormed there way into the internal systems of the Littleton Electric Light and Water Department.
