The son of a government contractor allegedly stole $46M from the U.S. Marshals Service. He eventually got caught because he couldn’t stop yapping about it.
John Daghita’s father ran CMDSS, a Virginia IT firm. The firm won a government contract giving them management of all cryptocurrencies the feds seize in criminal cases. John apparently helped himself to the crypto wallets and started moving funds out of his fathers company and into his own pockets.
John screen-shared a wallet with $23M to prove he had more crypto than another user. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT was in the chat, traced the funds to government seizure wallets, and tipped off the FBI.
French special forces and the FBI picked him up at a Caribbean villa in Saint Martin. They found a briefcase full of hundreds and a fistful of hardware wallets.
